Question:
am writing a research paper on addictions and I wanted to get some advice
from real people versus the medical profession. If you had to put one cause on
addiction, what would it be?
Answer:
You will get a different answer each time you ask and most of them won't
make sense to anyone who knows the truth about this.
Addiction begins when the alcohol or other drug is not metabolised properly
from the body. All of us have a system which does this for everything from
an aspirin to cocaine, some of us have a better system than others.
When this system gets overloaded, the drugs no longer pass harmlessly throgh
the urinary system, but are changed into other chemicals and stored in body
fat. Withdrawal consists of drawing these out of the fat and back into the
blood stream again to be gotten rid of.
It is a slow process, especially if more than one drug or other substance is
involved.
Unless there is some form of the above, the person is not aware of the
physiological process that takes place. This is all too common and the lack
of understanding is what causes relapse before the person can clear the head
well enough to work any program.
