Question:
IIRC Saturday Night Live made references to George W. Bush, Jr's
cocaine habit. I don't think they ever retracted.
Especially seeing the alcoholism in the family, it seems unlikely he
would deny his own alcoholism. I thought America was insane to put an
alcoholic in such a stressful job and expect him to stay dry.
I have wondered if these cocaine charges are true. If he had a serious
cocaine habit, his nasal septum would be damaged. I wondered if there
are any photographs sufficiently large to let me have a look for
myself. Unfortunately, with Photoshop, you can't trust anyone.
Damage could be created or repaired. Also I'm after a rather strange
angle for a photo.
A president with a cocaine habit would be even more dangerous than a
drunk. Crack heads go PARANOID. And what is even stranger, they GET
OFF on it. Some of the cabinet are behaving almost as if they were on
crack.
Answer:
I received an angry email chastising me for even asking this question.
The writer explained that Bush had admitted his alcoholism "like a
man".
I used to live on a small island where alcoholism was a major problem.
I went to AA meetings to socialise with people even though I did not
drink and was not an alcoholic. I also went to the NA meetings where
they just assumed I must be recovering from addiction to some drug.
I heard a lot more than I really wanted to hear about alcohol and drug
addiction.
I noted there is a correlation. People who take cocaine tend also to
abuse other drugs including alcohol.
This is not an accident. Judgement is impaired under alcohol, and
drunk people will try other drugs they might otherwise avoid.
It is thus quite reasonable to ask of any alcoholic what other drugs
this lead him into.
Alcoholics don't usually recover till they "hit bottom" and become
totally disgusted with themselves. Bush is a recovering alcoholic,
and thus presumably had a "hit bottom" experience. Likely it is was
not a pretty experience or one he would like plastered over the
headlines.
