Question:
Walt Moffett brought up Vocational Rehabilitation in a previous post. Can
someone out there tell us how this works?
the reason why I am asking is because I have been collect SSDI benefits for
18 months and no one from the SSA has contacted be over Voc Rehab.
Answer:
In my state (WI) DVR Department of Vocational Rehabilitation is
being transitioned to DWD Department of Workforce Development, and as
the new name implies the emphasis it seems is shifting from
rehabilitating disabled ppl from one professional background to another.
In other words if you are a head nurse at a hospital for instance, they
used to offer retraining in another field for instance, umm, like
baking; if you were no longer able to do your nursing duties but could
be a baker. No they just want to get you back in the work force...in
other words flipping burgers at Mac'c.
In a previous post you indicated you were a veteran. The VA still
offers rehabilitation and re- training I think. The states now
emphasise "welfare to work" which IMHO has "nothing at all" to do with
disabled ppl. So the monies have been taken from people who "want" to
better themselves to ppl who are forced to be off welfare and most
likely have no intention of bettering themselves so it is monies wasted,
at the expense of the disabled. This is just my .02 cents and we all
know how much value that 2 cents has.
