is how bad is the Lortab on his liver?

Question:
MY husband has Hepatitus C he has never had a biopsy and I know he has had it since he was a teenager he is now in his 40's, we first heard about it about 10 yrs ago when he was told he couldnt donate blood. He is also abusing Lortabs and a few others he gets the prescriptions from his DoctorS and noone knows about the others. And that makes it OK in his eyes. He does not tell them about the H-C. He was in a car accident last yr and hasnt been able to get off the Lortab I know he is addicted to them simply because of how many different doctors and he hides it from me. he will also go sit at the emergency room and fake pain for a script. He does not drink. I have been tested and nothing has ever shown up. I do give blood but not for a while.(Is this safe) My main question is how bad is the Lortab on his liver??? and what can I expect later on down the road with this? Am I at Risk?

Answer:
Sorry to hear all this about your husband. He needs to get help for his addiction to Lortabs, but I know the hardest thing to do is to help him realize his addiction. I am not a doctor, but I would think that constantly bombarding his liver with this substance can not be a good thing, even to a non-diseased liver. I my self have had Hep C for the last 15 years, and start drug treatment of Pegintron in combo with ribotron 200mg this coming Monday. I use to drink, but have stopped because it was just pouring fuel on the fire, and making things worst.

Hep C is contagious, but impossible to get with casual contact, and even sexually, conventional sex that is. The virus is passed through blood to blood, so you must just take precautions. I would talk to your Doc about all the real facts.

I hope your husband gets help with the Lortab addiction soon, I think this is key, before you can address anything else
