Question:
friend of mine said that Philip Morris did a study on the
addictiveness
of nicotine in rats and found that it is as addictive as heroin. He
said that they allow rats to self administer the drug and watch how the
doseage goes up with time. Apparently heroin and nicotine are the
steepest two curves compared to cocaine, alcohol, etc.
Does anyone else know anything about this?
I have to get home now . . . I need a pipe.
Answer:
STOP THE PRESSES! NICOTINE IS ADDICTIVE! oh.. wait.. we already knew
that.. Anybody who has observed the habits of most cigarette smokers will
tell you that they are addicted to them.. And I assume it probaby IS as
addictive as Heroin, if you injected Nicotine straight into your bloodstream..
But since most pipe smokers don't even inhale the smoke into their lungs,
the amount of nicotine absorbed via the mouth is pretty minimal..
Incidentally, this "addiction" to nicotine is no different than the
addiction to caffeine, i.e. if I don't have a cup of coffee in the morning,
I tend to get withdrawl headaches, etc.. I think either way it's making a
mountain out of a molehill..
